Living History 

The Battle of Richmond Association will be hosting the 15th Annual Living History Days

at Richmond Battlefield Park

from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.on April 26-27, 2018

​

Come and experience the Civil War era with us! Student may experience a variety of activities, some of which may include:

 

  • Cooking demonstrations

  • Archaeology

  • Cavalry

  • Artillery

  • Story Telling

  • Farming

  • Children’s games

  • Civil War clothing

  • Broom making

  • Era music

  • March and drill

  • Criquette

  • Cemetery tours

  • Confederate flag explanations

  • General Bull Nelson

  • Colonel William Link

  • Sharpshooter

 

Abraham Lincoln will address everyone at one time directly after lunch. You may find him joining you among your group as you travel from station to station.

 

Bring lunch and picnic on the grounds under several picturesque trees.

The work put into the eventful day by Mrs. Graves and her students was  an academic success. "Living History Days is my favorite field trip of the year! I have taken my students to the Living History Days at Pleasant View for 4 consecutive years now, and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. My students are engaged and learning all day long. From section to section and activity to activity, my students are interested and fascinated by the things they see. The "Blood Room", "Baseball", and the "Graveyard" are among there favorite exhibits. They learn so much from the hands-on activities and the visuals, no lesson I teach in the classroom could ever compare. "

"Each year my 5th graders attend the Living History Days on the Battle field.  Presenters from all walks of life represent what life was like during the time of the civil war.  From soldiers talking about battle, house wives and their role from sewing, baking, knitting…children and the games they would play.  Presenters showing the students the clothing of the period.  There have been gun and cannon demonstrations, presenters like Abe Lincoln…the list is endless.  What a great day for the students to witness, touch, participate, and hear about life during the era of the Civil War.

 

So glad to have this opportunity to go every year.  Mrs. Graves works tirelessly getting all the presenters to come in, setting up, scheduling and not to mention preparing her students to help those 2 days.  They arrive in period dress they’ve made themselves, some are prepared to make presentations, some are guides around the battlefield."
